H M Revenue & Customs investigation strategy is changing. Rather than just looking specifically at individuals, HRMC is targeting specific trades and gathering information to track down people who are not returning all income. For each campaign HMRC offer a period of time where an individual can come forward and make a complete voluntary disclosure for which they will offer a reduced penalty charge. Current campaigns are e-market place sellers and individuals who have not submitted returns for 2009-10 or earlier years. “E-sellers” should already have notified HMRC that they intend to make a disclosure, but have until 14 September to do so, with payment. The tax return initiative is for Higher Rate tax payers and they have until 2 October to take advantage of the scheme to submit outstanding returns and make any additional payment due. Forthcoming campaigns will be Direct Selling, aimed at those who sell products to customers away from a retail shop, often in the customers own homes and Home Improvements, focusing on trades people working in a variety of skilled areas such as roofing, window fitting, carpentry, bricklaying, and joinery. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you wish to discuss further.
